Comparing the two — my take

5.5″ handle 5.7″ · no taper 16.5″ — same on both

Tap to compare the shapes

Both run 16.5″ long — everything on this page is to scale. The real difference is the handle (5.5″ on the Elongated, 5.7″ with no taper on the Hybrid) and the Hybrid's rounded top. My take, not their spec sheet: that shape reads way closer to a Hyperion Gen 2 than to Vatic's hybrid, which tapers. Both come in black and each other's colors too.

What I actually wanna compare is swingweight. I'm thinking because the length didn't come down on the Hybrid — both run the full 16.5″ — the balance point might sit lower, and the swingweight might not be optimal if minimizing it is the goal. Real talk: swingweight should be the main deciding factor between these two shapes. And I don't even think the sweet spot is affected — the widths are practically the same, the tool shows it. Real numbers when the paddles land.

This little widget is one of the tools I wanna keep building for this page — stuff that helps you actually see the difference instead of squinting at spec tables. Honestly, it helps the creator see it too. More of these coming.

The CarbonSkyn™ thing

CarbonSkyn surface emblem

Not a spray-on grit — it's molded in. That's the pitch, and it's the one that matters: spray-on texture wearing smooth is THE hot topic in paddles right now. If the grit really is part of the surface, the spin lasts. August tells me if it's real.

What's coming

My ambassador paddle ships with the first production run, early August. Then this page gets real: actual pics of my paddle, actual specs, and whether the CarbonSkyn™ spin claim holds up against my Prism V7. Review lands right after — you already know.

My first hit with it

My honest take (so far)

My current paddle is the Vatic Pro Prism V7 16mm, because I found it comfortable with control — I don't really need a power paddle. I wanted to try the V-Sol Pro because I bought into the hype of the newest tech and the market's whole more-power-the-better thing, and it's great: the swingweight is very manageable and the power is better than the Prism. But I just defaulted back to the Prism V7 — it's what I play when I really want a more competitive setting for control, and I find myself switching over to the V-Sol Pro when I just want to hit the ball fast and not put in much effort. All of these are elongated shapes, by the way.

Full transparency: I'm a Vatic Pro ambassador too. Neither brand bought me though — every paddle here I paid for with my own money, just with the discount codes. Codes for both brands means I've got no reason to lean either way. The whole Vatic story is here if you're interested.

Similarly, I plan on playing a singles tournament, so I'm testing whether I need the extra pop and power in singles to have the potential to hit passing drives. It's my first tournament, and honestly I haven't had enough singles games — pickleball is a very social sport, so singles reps are hard to come by during the times I can actually play. But my theory: the Prism stays my main competitive paddle for doubles, and the V-Sol Pro or the Origin Elongated takes singles, because hand speed isn't as important there and passing drives are more of a weapon. I'd consider the Hybrid for doubles too, but I'll have to wait until they release — not sure yet.

When I first used the Elongated, the swingweight was noticeably way heavier, which affected my timing. But I honestly think I should use it consistently to really make an accurate judgment — whether it's a skill thing, a preference thing, or the paddle.

Cost-wise, my paddles all fall around $90 to $120 — and I believe paddles should land at less than $200, period. My consensus so far: it's a solid paddle compared to an Amazon paddle. And since I get to buy it at a discounted price on top of the pre-order discount, I'd take the opportunity to use it and have some variety in my pickleball bag.

TLDR: Prism V7 stays the main. Origin's auditioning for singles — felt heavy, need reps. Worth it at the discount. Review mid-August.
